Community Field Trip

What a day!
The Cleveland community has so many special people and places.

We began at Fleming Lumber Company.

Daniel Jordan told us about the goods and services his company provides.
Thank you, Mr. Jordan!  Your business makes our homes secure and lovely.

Then, we headed south to the Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department.
Brad Horton and Todd Livingston met us there.

Firefighters always "take a knee" when they are learning something important.

They showed us all the equipment and told us about the responsibilities of firefighters.
It is essential that firefighters listen to their chief and do the job they are assigned.

Guess what?  Firefighters need maps, too!

Then, it was our turn...

Nathan got the call.

Reese was the chief.

Everybody had a job to do.

Thank you, Cleveland firefighters!
We appreciate the safety your service provides for our community!

Next, we headed east to the sculpture garden at Delta State University.

Mrs. Nan Sanders happily greeted us when we arrived.
She shared the dream of her dear friend, Pam Matthews - a sculpture garden.

The sculptures currently on display were all created by men!

They are creative, different, and inspiring.  Everybody got to pick their favorite.

Thank you, Mrs. Sanders! Your service makes our community a more beautiful place to live.
You are beautiful, too!  :)

Back in our cars, we headed north to Lost Pizza Company!
They provided delicious pizza, refreshing drinks, and delightful pizza dough!

Thank you, Lost Pizza Company!
We love to eat your goods!

After lunch, we traveled south to the United States Post Office in Boyle, MS.
The postmaster is near and dear to PDS because he is Mrs. Carol Kyle's husband!
Earlier in the week, we had written a special letter to someone at PDS.
This was our opportunity to purchase a stamp and mail our letters.

Thank you, Mr. Kyle!  Everyone enjoys sending and receiving REAL mail!
We had fun at the post office!

Our final destination?
Wade Tractor Company

Mr. Bo Howell welcomed us with big smile, and a big tractor,

and a little tractor!  :)

We saw the showroom...

the parts department...

and the service department.

Asking for a tractor ride....

Thank you, Mr.Howell and Louie, for the awesome tractor ride!

The goods and services your company provides meets the unique needs of our Delta community.

AR Store

On October 13, we spent our Accelerated Reader points at the AR store!

Just look at all the cool stuff PTF bought!

It was hard to decide...

... but, we did!

There are many more great books for us to read.  We'll be back!!!

Fire Safety Program

Fire Prevention Week is always the first full week that includes the date of October 9.
Fire Inspector, Gene Bishop,  and two other Cleveland Volunteer firemen came to PDS today.

They know that teaching children fire safety
and safe techniques for reacting to fire helps save lives and property.

Thank you, Cleveland Volunteer Fire Department!

We took a special walk at school today.

Joining kids from around the globe,
PDS recognized the importance of physical activity with our Walk at School event.

We know that regular physical activity helps improve overall health and fitness
and keeps thinking and learning skills sharp!

It was a lovely day!

First, we gathered on the west side of the church.

Then, led by a Delta State policecar, we proceeded to the football stadium.

Green and gold balloons added extra energy and enthusiasm for our walk.

We walked all the way around the outside of the football field with a firm grip on our balloons.
Then...

we let them go!!!

We watched in awe...

 as the balloons went higher...

and higher in the clear blue sky.

It was a beautiful sight.
